========================================= MIDI PLAYER FOR WINDOWS README - 12/15/92 ========================================= Welcome to MIDI Player for Windows. Read on for information that is not contained in the program's manual. If you intend to use a CBX-T3 or TG100 connected directly to one of your computer's serial ports, you may also want to read the CBX-T3 Driver Info file (CBXT3.WRI). This file contains useful information about the CBX-T3's Windows-compatible driver and your computer. You can open the file with Write or simply double-click on its icon in the MIDI Player Program Group. Some additional functions have been added to the MIDI Player program since the publication of the manual. These functions are all related to Command Line options that can be specified in the properties of a Program Manager icon or in the Run dialog (accessed through the Windows Program Manager's File menu). By entering various commands in the Command Line text box, you can run MIDI Player, load a Song List, and start it playing--all with a single command string. Each of the commands are described below. To Launch MIDI Player and Load a Song List: MIDIPLAY mylist.sng The command "MIDIPLAY" launches the MIDI Player program. If you follow it with the filename of one of your Song Lists, that list will be loaded automatically. To Begin Playback Automatically: MIDIPLAY mylist.sng /p Adding "/p" to the command line causes the first song in the Song List to begin playing as soon as the list is loaded. It also causes MIDI Player to be launched without displaying its "About box". To Select Single or Multiple Playback: MIDI Player has two playback modes: Play Single Song and Play Song List. Normally, these modes are selected from MIDI Player's Options menu. When you run MIDI Player, it defaults to the mode that was selected the last time the program was run. You can also enter commands in the command line to choose one of these two modes. MIDIPLAY mylist.sng /p /m The "/m" command has the same effect as choosing Play Song List from the Options menu--all the songs in the list will play beginning with the first song. MIDIPLAY mylist.sng /p /s The "/s" command has the same effect as choosing Play Single Song--the entire list is loaded, but playback halts after the first song has played. To Loop a Song or Song List: If you add the command "/l" to the examples cited above, playback will loop. If you use the multiple (/m) command, then the entire Song List will loop. (It will play all the way through and then begin again with the first song.) If you use the single (/s) command, the first song will play over and over. You can stop playback by clicking the Stop button or by pressing the space bar. To Exit MIDI Player After Playback: MIDIPLAY mylist.sng /p /m /e Adding "/e" to the command string will close the Song List and exit the MIDI Player after playback has ceased. To Run MIDI Player "Minimized": If you add "/i" or "/n" to the command string, MIDI Player will run minimized--that is, it will appear as an icon on the desktop. (The "i" stands for icon; "n" is for non-active. Both have the same effect.)
